The City of Toruń

The origins of town can be dated back to a settlement created near the castle of the Teutonic Knights who in the period of 1228-1230 obtained the Chełmno Land from prince Konrad Mazowiecki.

Toruń University

The idea of establishing a university in Toruń was first conceived in the 14th century. However, it was only in 1568 that the Gymnasium was founded which received academic recognition in 1594. It became an education centre for students from elsewhere in Poland and beyond. However, all other attempts at establishing a university ended unsuccessfully.

Faculty of Law and Administration

Faculty of Law and Administration of N. Copernicus University was established officially on 25 November 1945 (initially in the form of Legal-Economic Faculty). In that period studies of law were based on the programme of 4-years studies. This model was in force till 1979 when a concept of 5-years legal education was introduced.
